Dear (Name Withheld),
There were several men named John Hail/Hale who served in the Revolutionary War. However, the placement of the above John Hale, Jr., as the man who lived and died in Bledsoe County TN, is incorrect.
Further, the names of the relatives of the above John Hale do not match those listed as the neighbors of the Revolutionary War John Hale. Lastly, John Hail, shown as a Revolutionary War veteran, did not die in 1838, but was still alive on the 1840 census. His estate was probated in 1843.
On 24 October 1998 an impressive Revolutionary War memorial ceremony, that included the unveiling of an attractive grave marker, was held for the John Hale who had died in Bledsoe County, TN. The event occurred in the Pendergrass Cemetery in Bledsoe County, TN. (John Hale was actually buried in an unmarked grave in an unknown cemetery in Bledsoe County, but the Pendergrass cemetery was chosen for this ceremony because some of his descendants are buried there.) Several descendants of the John Hale of Bledsoe County were in attendance, as well as local historians, representatives of the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. There were no representatives for the family of the above John Hale, Jr., alleged son of Col. John H. Hale and wife Elizabeth.)
At this point, it appears that two errors have been made regarding John Hale:
